SmartphonePopUps Online User Guide
This guide assumes you are already familiar with the basic functionality of Windows Mobile 5/6.
Installation Instructions
The PC installer version will install SmartphonePopUps on your device using ActiveSync on your desktop PC. Or, by copying the CAB file version directly to your device and clicking on it, SmartphonePopUps can be installed without needing ActiveSync. SmartphonePopUps should be installed in your device's main memory, not on the storage card. Please accept all warnings during the installation process on the device. After installation is complete, you will find the SmartphonePopUps application installed in your Start menu.
Using the Installed SmartphonePopUps Application
The SmartphonePopUps application is used to control the functionality of SmartphonePopUps on your device. When you first install SmartphonePopUps you will have 7 days to use the program for free before it stops functioning. At that time, you will need to purchase and enter an Activation Code in order to continue using the application.
After installation, click on the SmartphonePopUps icon in your start menu to select your options. SmartphonePopUps monitors certain events on your device and if that event occurs, displays a notification window based on the settings that you specify. Think of it like Caller ID for new email messages, new text messages, new voice mail messages, and missed calls.
The first screen is the main interface of the program. It contains two primary fields and one additional option for certain events.
Event:
This field contains the available events that SmartphonePopUps can monitor. First choose an event with the d-pad on your device then move down to the next field to select options for that event. The following events can be monitored and a notification window can be displayed for each one:
New E-Mail Received
New Text Message Received
New Voice Mail Received
Missed Call
Display notification window:
With your d-pad choose Yes to display a notification window when that the event selected above occurs or No to prevent a notification window from being displayed.
Optional event settings:
New E-Mail Received:
Dismiss marks message read - If checked this will cause SmartphonePopUps to change the status of the email message to read when the Dismiss soft key is pressed from the notification window.
New Text Message Received:
Dismiss marks message read - If checked this will cause SmartphonePopUps to change the status of the email message to read when the Dismiss soft key is pressed from the notification window.
Use alternate SMS reader (displayed if alternate SMS reader is installed on device) – If checked, this option will cause SmartphonePopUps to launch an alternate SMS reader (if installed) when the right soft key is pressed from the new SMS notification window.
New Voice Mail Received:
Use last missed call for Contact Info (we call this VoiceMail ID) - If checked, this option will cause SmartphonePopUps to use the phone number from the last missed call received (within the last 15 minutes), look up the corresponding Contact Name from the contact database stored on the device and display that Contact Name in the notification window. The contact must exist in the contact database for this to work! If no contact exists, the notification window will simply indicate that a new voice mail has been received and how many unheard messages there are (if supported by the cellular network).
Menu Soft Key - Themes
To change the appearance of the notification windows, select Themes from the Menu right soft key.
Popup theme - In this field, select the theme that you would like to use for the notification windows that are displayed. There are two themes available when you first install SmartphonePopUps:
Standard theme – This theme allows you to choose individual background colors for each monitored event (for example, New Email’s could be green, New SMS’s can be blue, etc.). Within this theme, there are two additional options available:
Theme event selection field – Select the event in this field to customize its background color.
Theme color selection field – There are five background colors to choose from for each event notification window:
White
Green
Blue
Yellow
Red
Outer Space theme – this is a space-based theme and, if selected, will be used for all monitored event notification windows.
PLEASE NOTE: A Theme Development Guide can be found by visiting the User Guide section of our web site. Using this guide, you can develop your own custom Themes for use with SmartphonePopUps. We anticipate third party themes will be available for use with SmartphonePopUps. Links to third party Theme developers should be available on our web site.
Start – Left Soft Key
When all options have been selected for each monitored event, press Start (left soft key) to initialize and activate SmartphonePopUps. When a monitored event occurs (New E-Mail Received, New Voice Mail Received, Missed Call) SmartphonePopUps will either display notifications or not, depending on the settings selected
Notification Window Options
Each PopUp notification window has its own soft key options. The options for each are as follows:
New Email Message:
Dismiss (Left Soft Key) – This option will Dismiss the currently displayed notification window. The message status will be changed to read if that option is selected on the event option screen.
Message (Right Soft Key) – This option will launch and open the message in the Messaging application
New SMS Message:
Dismiss (Left Soft Key) – This option will Dismiss the currently displayed notification window. The message status will be changed to read if that option is selected on the event option screen.
Reply (Right Soft Key) – This option will launch and open the SMS message in reply in the Messaging application. The phone number of the Sender will be automatically entered in the “To:” field of the new message.
PLEASE NOTE: If an alternate SMS reader is installed and the option to use it is checked on the event settings screen the Reply soft key will be replaced with SMS reader. When pressed, this will launch the alternate SMS reader instead of the Messaging application.
New Voice Mail Message:
Dismiss (Left Soft Key) – This option will Dismiss the currently displayed notification window.
Voice Mail (Right Soft Key) – This option will automatically dial your phone’s voice mail number in order to listen to your unheard messages.
Missed Call:
Dismiss (Left Soft Key) – This option will Dismiss the currently displayed notification window.
Missed Calls (Right Soft Key) – This option will display a list of the most recent missed calls received by your phone.
PLEASE NOTE: If multiple undismissed notification windows are stacked (one behind the other), a “Dismiss All” option will be displayed when the Dismiss (Left Soft Key) is pressed. By choosing Dismiss All, all notification windows will be dismissed at once. Message read status for Email and SMS will NOT change if this option is selected.
Menu Soft Key – Suspend All
Selecting this option will essentially turn off SmartphonePopUps and stop all monitoring activities.
Menu Soft Key – Activation
When the 7 day free trial has expired, SmartphonePopUps will stop functioning and you will need to visit www.qorefunctions.com to purchase an Activation Code and permanently activate the program. Following the transaction, you will need to request an Activation Code from our web site and supply the owner name of your device (typically your name) found under device settings. The activation code for SmartphonePopUps will be based on your exact device owner name. You should be emailed your activation code within 2 business days.
When you receive your Activation code, choose Activation from the Menu (right soft key) and enter your activation code in the space provided. The program will continue to function normally at that point.
Menu Soft Key - Cancel
Choose this option from the Menu (right soft key) to exit from the application without saving your changes.
